No Coupons tomorrow!!!

There will not be any coupon inserts in the papers tomorrow because of the holiday.  Use this week to catch up on clipping or filing if you need it!!!

Whats for Dinner?

What a crazy week last week was!!! I started the week without a plan and I have to say my life is much less hectic when I have a plan!!!  I knew that I wasn't going to be home several night last week so we did a lot of eating out!  Not the best on budget let me tell you!  So despite how crazy the week was I sat aside some time to come up with a plan.  I don't have the actual days assigned out but I do know that I will be cooking!!!

Here is what is on the menu:
  • French Onion Baked Chicken with Broccoli and Biscuits
  • Spaghetti Pie
  • Bacon Tenderloin
  • Slow Cooker Pot Roast
  • Chicken Pot Pies
I try to always have a good to backup plan should something happen and cooking isn't going to happen.  I am lucky that my kids love sandwiches and pancakes!!!

If you are interested in where I get these yummy recipes head over to EMealz and sign up.  You get a weekly menu with a shopping list.  I will be honest I don't always go by the shopping list.  They base the menus on what store brands are on sale and as all of us couponers know we can get National brands cheaper sometimes.  I use the shopping list as a guide.  Rarely is there something on there that I would need that I don't already have in my stock pile!!!

Check it out and let me know what you think!  Do you like these style of posts or do you want the recipe for one of the yummy meals listed above?  Comment below and I will send it your way!

DEAL OF THE WEEK!!!

Mom...what is for dinner?

How many times are you asked that question on the way home from work or school?  For me it is a daily question and the answer is usually...I don't know yet kiddos.  This week I was determined to try something new to make my nights a little less stressful since my son is now in school.  Friday night I sat down with the computer and my coupons and I planned a menu.  Once I had the menu planned I went to my stockpile to see what I didn't need to buy and then started the coupon process.  Of the 26 items I need for all of my dinners I was able to knock 6 of them off from items in my stock pile.  I was okay with that since it was only my first week doing this.  Once I had those items marked off I starting going through and matching coupons with what was on sale and looking at my favorite match up sites for deals.
Here is my menu for the week.  If you would like recipes let me know and I can post those as well!!!

Monday- One dish Nacho Bake with cantaloupe
Tuesday- Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff with green beans
Wednesday- Pizza Quesadillas with bread sticks and fruit
Thursday- Pancakes and bacon (my kids FAVORITE meal)
Friday- Eat out night

Since my plan is to do my menu each Friday night and shop Saturday I don't have the weekend on this menu.

Let me know what you think of this post...if it is helpful or if you think it stinks!!!  I love feedback!

Pretty Cool Summer Deal at CVS....Spend $30 get a $10 gas card

Hey Couponers...
I have been hearing rumors of this CVS deal all week and now that the Weekly Ad preview is up I can tell you that it is true.  If you spend $30 on select items that will be shown on the front and back of the CVS weekly ad you will get a coupon printed on your receipt that will allow you to get a FREE $10 gas card.  That is pretty amazing with it being summer when we all know gas prices are going to skyrocket!
So this is what the items are this week:
Sobe Life Water or 32 oz Gatorade --BOGO
Tostitos or Doritos-- 2 for $5
Edy's Ice Cream--BOGO
Hershey's Singles- B2G1
Folgers Classic Roast Coffee- 8.99
2 Liter Cokes- .99 limit 5
Lysol Spray or Wipes- 2 for $10
Palmolive- .88 limit 5
Finish Tab or Powerballs-- $2.99
M&Ms 15 oz-2 for $5
M&Ms Large Bag- $4
Sweedish Fish or Sour Patch Kids 15 oz- 2 for $5
Twizzlers 11-32 oz -- 2 for $4

I am pretty sure that there are some coupons for at least some of these items.  It says on the back of the add that you are limited to one gas coupon per household per week.  It also says while supplies last and no rain checks.  I am thinking that this is going to bring out some CRAZY couponers but if you go into a store and they don't have the products or the cards don't give up!!!  It sounds like you have the full week to do your shopping so hopefully they will get in lots of these items and lots of gas cards!  I am about to start digging in the inserts to see what match ups I can find so stay tuned for more!  I can't wait to hear how this goes for you guys this weekend!!!

I am back!!!!!

Hello Couponers!!
So terribly sorry that I had to take a mini break from the blog but with all the devastation in the state of Alabama and some insane schedules with both on my kids I needed to take a blogcation!

But now I am back and I am really anxious to start adding to my stockpile since I pretty much cleaned it out and donated it to storm victims.  Such a great feeling to know that I could help out as much as I did and not totally drain my bank account.

I am home right now with a really bad case of walking pneumonia and all of the steroids that I am on have brought on some massive food cravings!  This afternoon I wanted rice so into the kitchen I went thinking I had some wonderful bags of 90 sec Uncle Ben's rice only to find that I had donated them so I said to myself it is time to restock!!  I did a mini shop last Friday just to make sure I still had it in me and I got lots of cheap stuff at Publix.  So over the next few days I will be getting back into my favorite sites tracking down the deals and letting you all know about them!  Thanks for sticking with me during this time!!!

April's Fury

Hello Couponers
I it with a very heavy heart that I sit here writing this blog.  As most of you may know I live in the great state of Alabama that Wednesday was ripped apart due to massive tornadoes.  I have never seen anything like it at all even in the movies.  Luckily the part of Alabama that I live in was spared from the worst of it but I have friends in areas that were hit hard.  The death toll just in the state of Alabama is over 200 now and there are people that have lost everything they own.

I spent part of the day yesterday at the a local missions office sorting items that would be sent out to the victims.  I started out in the massive clothing section of warehouse sorting clothes and shoes.  I am going to be brutally honest here because I think someone needs to say it...I was appalled at some of the things that I saw that were donated.  Do people actually think that someone that doesn't have a house needs a pair of 5 inch stilettos?  Not to mention it is well in the 80's here and we uncovered bag after bag of heavy sweaters and coats.  These people have immediate needs!!! The need shoes that they can wear right now as they sift through the rubble that was their life.  Okay soap box rant over...I know that every little bit helps and maybe those stilettos (by the way that wasn't the only pair we saw) were all that that particular person had to give but to me there were bags that I opened that just looked like someone cleaned out their closet of the things they no longer liked and brought them to us.

After an hour of clothes sorting I ventured over to the toiletries section.  I was up to my elbows in toothpaste!!!!  I was loving it.  I opened one box and when I looked inside I said to myself..I bet this box was brought in by a couponer!  It looked a lot like my stockpile here at home.  I was sad to see that this area of the warehouse was WAY smaller that the clothes section.  There is a huge need for those items right now.  So my couponing mission this week is to get as much of that type stuff as I can and get it to those people. If you are reading my blog and you would like to know ways that you can help comment below and I will get you the information.  If you know me and you want to make a donation of something I would be happy to meet you somewhere or you can drop it by my house!!

So Couponers....LET'S GET THIS!!!!

Can you be on a diet and get everything that you need with coupons?

Can you coupon and be on a diet?  That is the question of the night here at my house.   On Monday I am going start on the 17 Day Diet.  This is a diet that requires you to eat a lot of chicken, veggies, fruit, and probiotics.  So my goal is to diet and coupon.  Lots of times diets require that you eat a lot of weird (well weird to me) things that are hard to find with coupons.  With this diet I think that I will be able to follow the plan and stay with my coupon plan as well.
So stay tuned and we will take this journey together!!!  How awesome will it be if we can lose weight and save money in the process???

Hope everyone has had a good week.  I have taken a little break from couponing since there were no new ads for Publix this week!!!

My CVS Shop This Week

My CVS shop this week was pretty awesome!!!  I did make a mistake in my calculations that caused me to look like an idiot in the store but that is okay....it happens!!!

This is how I did:
4--LOreal Face Washes
7--Finish Dishwasher Tabs
2--Bubbles (these were not the ones that we on sale that week)
1--Maybelline Foundation
1--Maybelline Gel Eye Liner

Total OOP: $36.62
Total Savings: $64.88
ECBs Received: $14.99

Before my coupons my total was a little over $100.  If you take into consideration the ECBs that I got I got all of that stuff for $21.63!!!!
The mistake that I made cost me a $6.00 ECB.  I should have gotten 5 of the face washes instead of just 4 and I would have gotten the ECB.  Not a huge mistake but I walked out there a little deflated because I was trying to earn the same amount of ECBs that I used in this transaction which was $21.99.  Again nothing major just kicked myself a little!!!

Coupon Preview for Sunday

This Sunday is going to be a great coupon weekend!!!  HOPEFULLY you will all get 4 yes you read that 4 coupon inserts in this weeks paper!  The rumors going around are that we will get 2 Smart Source and 2 Red Plums on Sunday!!!

From what I can see on the Internet it looks like one Smart Source will have a lot of medicine coupons in it and the other Smart Source will have Huggies and some food items.  The Red Plum will have several food items.  I am going to keep looking for specifics and I will keep you all posted.

Happy Savings!!

WHOOOO HOOOOO!!!! CouponDeDe does it again!

So Monday afternoon I was looking at this weeks Publix ad and saw a hole in my coupons so I decided to go over to CouponDeDe and see what I could get to help me out.  This is how I did:
10- $1.00 of 2 Mars Candy items
2-- $1.00 of 1 Dove Chocolate Bag
4--$.55 off 1 Chinet
6--$1.00 off 1 Hormel Refrigerated Entree
2--$1.00 off 1 Tropicana Pure Premium
4--$1.00 off 2 Charmin
4--$1.00 off 1 A1 Steak Sauce or Marinade

That is 32 coupons and it only cost me $4.14.  I feel like that is a pretty good deal.  Several of these items that I got weren't in my inserts or I only had one or two of them so I am pleased!!

How I got a $2.15 lunch from Schlotzsky's

The other day I posted on Facebook that I was at Schlotzsky's and I had paid $2.15 for my lunch.  All that I had to pay for was my drink and you can tell by my $2.15 total that I got a large (or a gallon drink as my husband called it).  So how did I do it?  With a survey that was on the bottom of a receipt my husband had.  He was in there one day having lunch and he got a web address on the bottom that said fill out this survey and get a free sandwich.  I don't think my husband has paid for a sandwich there for months.

So if you get any kind of survey on a receipt take a look at it and you might get something free!!!

Happy Saving and Hopefully getting some free stuff!!!

Busy Busy Week!!

Good Afternoon Couponers!!!  Is anyone else as happy as I am that the weekend is here???

I didn't get to do a lot of shopping this week but I did make it to CVS and to Walgreen's.  Last Saturday morning I did my weekly Publix shop.  I am going to work on getting my weekly totals ready for you guys.  We are having some terrible weather here so I might not get it all done tonight but I am going to try!

So where all are you planning on shopping this weekend?  I am about to start digging up the deals that I think are hot for the next week so stay tuned!!!

TLC's Extreme Couponing tonight

Tonight's show was WAY better than last weeks two episodes!!! I think by far my fave couponer to date is Nathan.  Yes it is a little crazy that he has a toothpaste room BUT did you see the goods that he was putting in those bags!!!  I totally teared up when I saw the impact that he was having....makes me want to use my money saving skills in the same way.

As for the twins...they scared me!!!  They seemed very harsh and not people that I would really want to help much if I worked in a store.  I am all for saving money but there is no need to be snippy with the cashier.  They also appear to be shelf cleaners which really bugs me.  Not only is it rude to take everything that is there for others but to then complain about there not being any floss...I bet you heard me yelling at the TV?

I was so touched by Nathan and his giving.  I am working on an idea for all us that coupon to make an impact like he has so stay tuned to see!!!

Stock Pile Update

After a little over a month of couponing and working on my stockpile I am very very please to say that I actually have a few items that I am fully stocked up on and won't have to purchase them for awhile!!!!  I am so excited at what all I have stocked up on for such cheap prices!!! These are the items that I feel like I am fully stocked up on right now:
Laundry Detergent
Toilet Paper
Tissues
Shampoo
Toothbrushes
Lotion
Face wash
Dishwasher Detergent
Pasta
Hamburger Helper
Frozen Veggies
Butter
Cheese
Cereal
Body Wash

I am sure that there are some things that I have left off of this but this is going solely on my memory!!!  I am still planning on watching the sales for toothpaste and toothbrushes to donate for a mission trip!
How are your stockpiles looking?  I hope that those of you that are following the blog will leave a comment and let me know how you are doing!!!

Happy Shopping, Stockpiling, and Saving!!!

Brown Bag Challenge Update

So last week I decided that I was going to put myself on a Brown Bag challenge and instead of going out to eat every day that I was at work I was going to take my lunch two days each week.  This week I decided that those days were going to be Tuesday and Thursday.  Tuesday was a crazy busy day so having my lunch there at work saved me a ton of time!  Tomorrow I am not going to be able to take my lunch so I am going to move my day to Friday.  I work in a place where EVERYONE goes out a lunch so resisting the temptation to not just join the crowd is going to be hard but I have two friends helping me stay on track!!!

My Apologies

Hello Couponers!!!  Happy Hump Day!
I am so sorry that I haven't gotten any blogs up this week but it has been a crazy busy and very stressful week so far!  However I am home tonight and I have several things that I will be posting!

Who is going to watch the TLC Extreme Couponer show tonight??  Even thought I don't think what they are showing is really reality I am going to watch. Tonight they are supposed to be showing how couponing can enable you to donate things so I am very interested to see how they portray this.  I have my doubts about people actually doing what they do on the show but my favorite cashier and bagger and I talked about it last weekend when I was in Publix and they say that they do have people that get truck loads of things and pay very little for them!  So maybe one day I will get there!!!

I hope that you have all had a great week!  Even as stressful as this week has been for me I feel really bad for not posting things here!

Didn't get my extra papers today

I was soooooo excited when I woke up this morning and thought about the 3 papers that were supposed to be waiting for me in my drive way.  When I left to go to church I ran out to get them and it was only 1.  No biggie I thought!  I will run to Dollar Tree and get a few extras.  NOPE they were sold out!  So this gives me the perfect opportunity to try a service that someone on Facebook told me about where I can order whole inserts.  I am checking out the process now and I will definitely do a post and let you know how it all works!!!

Couponing for a Cause

Happy Saturday!!!!  I don't know about where you guys are but here in Alabama it is HOT!!!

I was just looking on Facebook and some friends of mine that work at my kids school are going on a mission trip this summer to Africa.  They are looking for toothbrushes and toothpaste to take along with them.  My stockpile of both of these is pretty much stocked for awhile.  So for the next few months every time I can get free or cheap toothbrushes or toothpaste I will be getting it for the Swaziland Missions Team!

I have seen how the Lord will provide things when they are needed and this is one way that I can help this team of wonderful people that help my children every day!

Sunday Coupon Preview

In this Sunday's paper there will be one Smart Source and one Red Plum insert!!  So glad that I added 2 extra subscriptions this week with the special my local paper was running!!!

Brown Bag Challenge

I am giving myself a challenge that I really really hope I can keep up with!!!!  I want to see if Brown Bagging lunch 2 days a week can help me save even more money.  I would love to say "I am going to take my lunch EVERYDAY!"  but I know for me that is not realistic at all.  There are days when I just have to get out of the office!!!  So starting next week my goal is to take my lunch at least 2 out of the five days that I am at work.  If I can do it I know the savings will be small but the sense of accomplishment will be HUGE!!  If I can do it I will add a day!!!  So stay tuned to see if I can keep it up....Meredith and Stephanie you guys are going to have to keep me in check!!!!

Weekly Savings

TGIF Couponers!!!
I hope that you have all had a successful week of shopping and savings!!  I feel like I have had a good week.  I am hoping that next week I don't have to do as much shopping as I did this week since my stockpile is getting pretty much fully stocked.  This week I saved almost as much as I spent which to me is a pretty bug accomplishment.  My total out of pocket for the week was $203.48.  That includes 2 trips to Publix, 2 trips to CVS, and one stop at Walgreens.  The retail of what all my trips this week was $394.76 so I saved $198.56.
I was thinking that I had saved more than that but I was looking at my monthly total from last month.  I am hoping that as I get better at couponing and my stockpile is more rounded out that I will save WAY more than I spend each week.

Do you like this type of post?  If so leave me a comment so that I will know to continue these post!!!

Happy Weekend and Shopping and Savings!!!

The Coupon Binder Overhaul Has Begun!!!

Howdy Couponers!!!
I have been talking for a few weeks now about overhauling my binder and I officially started today.  I discovered that really like to have my coupons clipped but I also like keeping the inserts whole.  I have a lot of people that give me coupons that they don't use so those I have to clip and file in my baseball card inserts.  The inserts that I get I don't clip.  Now that I am getting multiple papers every week I am going to start keeping my inserts in an expandable file thing that I have from the first time that I couponed.

So here is what I have done so far.  With the number of HBA coupons that I have I added several baseball card holders to that section and designated a product for each one.  So this is what I have in my HBA section now, I have my sheet protector for my printed coupons and a sheet protector for my clipped but not filed coupons.  The I have a page just for Oral Care, a page for body washes, lotions, and razors, followed by a page for makeup, a page just for all the men's products, and last but not least a page for just shampoo.

This is all that I got finished today but I plan on going into each section of my binder and as I am cleaning out expired coupons I am going to evaluate the way that I have everything in there and see if I need more baseball card pages.  I still have a lot of coupons that I need to file in all of my sections so doing that will help me see what I need!!!

Happy Organizing and Saving!!!

Mini Shop at Walgreens today

Good Evening Couponers!!!
I have a sick child so I needed to run in Walgreen's today to get her some medicine so I did a little shopping while I was there.  I was once again reminded of how I don't like the Walgreen's that is over here on my side of town.  They were doing a complete reset of the store today when I was in there and I couldn't find anything that I was looking for.  However it turned out to be an AWESOME I repeat AWESOME shop!!!

This is how I did:
2-- Pantene Shampoos
2--Purex Laundry Detergents 32 loads each
2--14 packs of Always
1--Lunchable
1--PediaSure

Total OOP- $7.98

TLC's Extreme Couponing

WOW!!!!  What a show!  I was so excited for the show to start...I was like a little kid!!!  However I have to say as excited as I was I was more than a little dissappointed in it. I personally think that it should be called CRAZY Extreme Couponing.  Which is what has prompted me to do this blog tonight.

I want to you all to know that I am not a CRAZY Extreme Couponer.  I coupon for the things that my family needs and uses.  I would NEVER, let me repeat that NEVER clear the shelves of anything for a deal.  I did it one time and I felt terrible about it afterwards and all that I took was the last Diet Coke I really didn't clear the shelf!  If you watched the show you saw a woman clear the shelves of mustard with her husband standing there saying he didn't like mustard.  To me that is just out there!!!  I am not going to buy something that I know my family doesn't like UNLESS it is something that I do like...then it becomes a treat for me!!! So if this is your first time reading my blog and you are expecting me to tell you how to go from $1000 to $10 you are in the wrong place.  I am here to share my knowledge of how I make couponing work for me and my family.  Do I stockpile?  Yes.  Do I have 74 bottles of mustard in my stockpile?  No!!!  I stockpile just enough to get me to the next sale which is usually 3-4 months.  Will I ever fill a shower with toilet paper or store bar be que sauce under one of my kids beds?  NO!!!  I will stockpile using the normal food storage areas in my house and will have it looking like I live in a grocery store.  And finally do I think that what those women did on the show is doable here where I live?  To some extent I do...but not as close to free as they got it.  I can pretty much walk into CVS and get a lot of stuff for cheap.  Same with Walgreens.  However the grocery store is a different animal for me.  Would I like to do what they did last night?  Heck yeah but only if I was getting things that I know that my kids and husband will eat and use!!!

Let me leave you with this question if you watched the second episode....is Maalox a new party food that I am not aware of?  If so please let me know ASAP because I am having people over this weekend and want to make sure that I get some!!!

Product Review-- Purex Fabric Softner Crystal

I would like to start this post out by saying that I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!!

One area that I have been a total brand snob is laundry detergent.  I have been a Gain girl since the day my grandmother told me that Tide would ruin my clothes (I really don't think that it is true but I was looking for a reason to change) .  So when I started couponing I saw that I could get Purex for .99 at CVS so I was like OK I will give it a try.  I feel in love with it!!!  So when Purex put out these fabric softner crystals  and I could get those for $.99 I was like BRING IT ON!!!

These things make your clothes smell AMAZING!!!  From what I can tell from the stores that I have been to there are 3 scents that they come in.  I have used the purple which is lavendar and the blue which is Fresh Spring Waters.  I haven't been able to find the other scent yet but I am sure that it is just as amazing as these other two.  They have such a strong scent that as the dryer is running the whole laundry room will smell wonderful!  Towels that were washed over a week ago still smell great when they come out of the closet early in the morning!

I can't say enough about how great these things are!!!  So watch the CVS ads they have by far the best deals on Purex and grab some of this wonderful stuff for cheap and see if you like it!  I think that you will!!!

Happy Shopping and Savings!!!

New Extreme Couponing show on TLC tonight

Are you guys as excited as I am about the new Extreme Couponing show that is premiering tonight on TLC????  I can't wait!!!!  I hope that these are people that we can learn from and not people so extreme that we don't get anything out of it other than a WOW that is a lot of stuff!!!

After the show is over I hope to be able to do a blog as a recap for anyone that may have missed it!

Mid Week Shopping Trip

Happy Hump Day Couponers!!!
Have you found a ton of great deals this week?  I decided to try something new this week and do a mini mid week shop at Publix so that I could get the penny item this week.  This is the first week in awhile that it has been something that I needed to get!!!
This is how I did:
1--Always
1--Scotties Tissue
1--Crest Toothpaste
2--Oral B Toothbrushes
1--Purex
1-- 1 liter diet coke
1-- 20 oz Diet Dr Pepper
1--Publix Deluxe Mac and Cheese

Total OOP: $9.51
Total Saved: $18.70
This is an 84% savings!!!!  I was very pleased with this trip!!!

I usually do one massive shop at Publix each week but this smaller shop was much easier and a lot easier to prep for and manage so I am thinking about doing more small shops when I have time just to see how that works for me.  However with as busy as I am I am not sure if that will work for me but we will see!!!

Happy Savings!!!

Publix Penny Item

If you haven't been yet today the Publix Penny Item is Mac and Cheese.  The penny coupon is on page 2A of today's Birmingham News!!!

UPromise Coupons

Howdy Couponers!
Another great way to save at the store is with UPromise Coupons.  In order to use these coupons you have to be a memeber of UPromise.  Don't have kids?  No worries you can still sign up to be a member and save the money and when you have a child you can change the name in the system with no problem. I actually signed up six months before I got pregnant with my son.

In case you aren't familiar with UPromise it is a savings program to help you earn money toward college.  You can do this by registering your customer cards at places like CVS, Publix, Winn Dixie, and your debit card and when you purchase items that have the UPromise logo on them a percentage of that cost will go into you UPromise account.  In addition to those savings they off a credit card that will reward you savings on every purchase.  They also give you savings when you shop certain stores from thier website.

The grocery coupons that they offer work in the same way.  When you go the to UPromise site there is section for the coupons.  All that you have to do is select the items that you know that you will be purchasing that month and select them to be loaded on all of the customer loyalty cards that you have.  When that card is scanned at the store and you purchased the item that money will go into your UPromise account!!!  It is really easy!!!

So if you see on a coupon match up a UPromise coupon now you know how to get it and use it!!!! Here is a link to the UPromise site so that you can sign up if you aren't already a member!!!

CVS Deals that I scored today

So this afternoon I ventrued to CVS with my kids....not something that I have done yet while couponing.  It was interesting to say the least but I still managed to get out of the store only buying 3 drinks and 2 jelly bean eggs that weren't on the list!!!  Here is what I got:
3-- Resse's Eggs
3-- Cadbury Mini Eggs
2-- Glide Dental Floss
2--L'Oreal Voluminus Mascaras
1--Almay Pressed Powder
1-- Diet Dr Pepper
1-- Coke
1-- Chocolate Milk
2-- Jelly Bean Eggs

My total out of pocket was $23.72.  I saved $28.22!!!
I also walked out with 3 ECB totaling $12.00 for my next trip to the store.   This is actually one of the first times that I have gone to CVS and they actually had everything on my list which was exciting!!!   There are a few more deals that I am looking at going back for later on in the week so I will keep you posted!!!
Sorry the drinks aren't in the picture and one of the Mini Eggs is gone...remember that I said my kids were with me!!!!

Publix shop from yesterday

Hello Couponers!
First of all I am sooooooo sorry I didn't get this posted yesterday but my baby girl hurt her toe and I had to rock her and love on her all night because she was so upset!!!

I did fairly decent at Publix yesterday.  I saved $120.56 but I spent a little more than.  I fell victim to the things that I saw that looked liked a good deal that weren't on my list that I didn't have a coupon for.  However they were things that I know we will use and they did have peelies on them so I did save some on them!!!  I also had to get some produce and a few things that weren't on sale.

The deal that I was the most excited about the Truvia I wasn't able to get because my store was all out.  I should have gotten a rain check but I had been in the store for 2 hours and was getting phone calls from home so I decided not too!  I am planning on running by today to see if they had any come in.  I was able to round out my stock pile of Idahoan Mash Potatoes.  I got a free reusable Publix bag for buying two Cover Girl Eye Shadows that were regular price $2.99 that I got for $.49!!!

Overall it wasn't a terrible week.  It was the first time in over a month that I have spent more than I saved and  I have to say I felt very disappointed in that!!!!

Hope you have all had a good weekend!!!! I am scoping out the drugstore sales and will post the deals that I see there soon!!!

Headed to Publix!!!

After a crazy busy morning I am finally headed to the store!!!  Looks like it is going to be a good shop!
The main deal that I see right now is Truvia...I have a $1.00 Publix coupon that is was in the 3-20 RP insert and a $1.00 printable (SmartSource.com) so I am going to pay $.99 for it!
Also Pepperidge Farm Goldfish in several varieties are $1 and I have a handful of $.35 coupons!!

Stay tuned to see how it goes!!!

First of the month means NEW PRINTABLE COUPONS!!!

I do love when the first of the month rolls around!!!  It is almost like a birthday each month when you get to sign on and see what new and wonderful printables are out there...well at least for me it is!!!  Couponing has become my hobby so it doesn't take much to get me pumped up about it!!!

Yesterday all of the major coupon sites restocked and put lots of new coupons out there so don't forget to go take a look!  I saw new Huggies coupons, loads of Easter candy coupons, Goldfish Graham cracker coupons (which are on sale this week at Publix and with this coupon makes them $.30!!!).

So get out some paper and have your scissors ready!!!

Product Review of Philadelphia Cooking Cream

So I am one of those people that doesn't really like to try new things unless I know that someone has tried it and liked.  Well sometimes when you are couponing you find a deal on a new product that you just can't pass up.  So I went out on a limb a few weeks ago when Publix had the new Philladelphia Cooking Creme on sale AND I had a coupon that made it $.50. I had never tried it...didn't know anyone that had tried it..and the only person that I had ever talked to about it was this nice lady that was standing in front of it talking about how she couldn't believe there wasn't a coupon for it that she had seen (I gave her 2 that I had)!!!

Tonight I was feeling adventurous after my deals at Walgreen's and I decided I would make a chicken pasta with it tonight.  I cooked 3 chicken breast in some olive oil and garlic, chopped it up and added some pasta and a good bit of green peas and mixed in a whole container of the Italian Herb Cooking Cream.  It was AMAZING!!!!  When it heated up and mixed with the chicken/pasta/pea mixture it coated everything with just the right amount of sauce.  I added a little salt and pepper when I served it and it was TASTY!!!  I really wish that I would have had some parmesan cheese that I could have added to the top but even without it it was yummy!

Part of couponing is trying different and new products  Especially the ones that you can get for $.50!!! So from time to time as I find something at a great deal and give it a try I will post about it whether I liked it or not!!  You guys let me know if these types of posts are something that you would like to read!!!

Happy Shopping- Saving- and Cooking!!!

Friends and Family Day at Walgreen's

Happy Thursday Couponers!!!
This morning when I got to the office I was greeted by a coupon sitting on my desk.  It said 15% off at Walgreen's today only.  I so wish that I could have gotten to my blog to tell you all about it so that you could have printed one for yourself!!!  It was Friends and Family day today at Walgreen's and with the coupon you could get 15% off your entire purchase and 20% off of Walgreen's brand items.  This totally made my morning (thank you Meredith!!!!).
So these are the transaction that I did:
Transaction #1
  • 2- Dove Deodorant
  • 1- Dove Shampoo
  • 1- Dove Body Wash
  • 1- 2 pack of Dove for Men soap
  • 2- Colgate 360 Toothbrushes
  • 2- Chinet Plates (10 plates per pack)
  • 1- Diet Dr Pepper (I was having a coughing fit!!!!)
Total Spent: $18.45
Total Saved: $15.00
Total RR: $9.00

Transaction #2
  • 2- Skintimate Shave Gels
  • 3- Lady's Speed Stick Deodorants
  • 4- Snickers Eggs
  • 2- Colgate 360 Toothbrushes (these really should have been in transaction 1 but I messed up)
  • 1- Dividers with Pockets (for the binder overhaul taking place this weekend)
Total Spent: $12.13
Total Saved: $17.50
Total RR: $7
I did use the $5 RR from the first transaction but I totally forgot that if I used the $4 RR on this transaction I wouldn't get the other $4 RR for the 2 Colgate toothbrushes.  THANK GOODNESS I had a coupon friendly cashier that knew this so that I didn't waste my $4 RR!!!  So I have a ton of stuff and $11 in RR for next week.
So for $30.58 I was able to get 21 items AND walk out with $11 to spend next week.  The Colgate Toothbrushes were FREE after the RR!!!!
I love Walgreen's!!!  Especially when I go to one that understands their policies and has a very helpful and friendly staff!!!

Here is a picture of my goods!!!  Sorry it is missing the Diet Dr Pepper but like I said I was having a coughing attack!!!
Have you gotten a major deal at Walgreen's lately?  Leave me a comment and let me know!!!

Time to reorg the Coupon Binder

WOW!  I thought that they way that I had my binder set up was perfect for my couponing needs.  Tonight as I was going through it and pulling coupons for my grocery shop this week I was like...this isn't working.  I think my binder might be too small.  For those of you that have seen it I know you all just said NO WAY!  So I am in the process of reorganizing my binder.

The first step that I actually did a few weeks ago was to add a page protector behind each section for clipped coupons that I haven't or will not file.  Some of my sections have baseball card inserts with all of the coupons sorted out and others don't.  So now behind each divider I have two page protectors..one for clipped insert coupons and one for printed.  I have found that it is really really hard to get printed coupons in the BB card holder so I clip them (well not all of them I would be cutting for days) and keep them in the page protector.

The next thing that I plan on doing this weekend when I have more time is to look at some of my sections and either break them down into smaller sections within that section or add dividers and create new categories.  I am not really sure which way I will go...I have to think on it some more.

The main thing to keep in mind when you are starting a binder is to set it up so that it works for you.  After all you are the one that is using it!!!

Happy ORGANIZING!!!

Insert Preview of Sunday

Save you change couponers!!!  It is P&G insert weekend!!!  In addition to the P&G there will be 1 Smart Source insert.

Publix this week

Howdy Couponers!
So sorry that I have not posted this week but I have had a sick child and it has been a very very busy week...and it is only Wednesday!
I have to be honest and tell you that I am not really impressed with the sales at Publix this week.  I like to think that it is because my stock pile has gotten to the point that there isn't a ton that I have to add to it.
Right now there are just a few of the items that I am planning on getting:
  • Purina Kit n Kaboddle Cat Food
  • Cheetos (I am pumped about this!!!)
  • Sabra Hummus (will be $.99)
  • Hormel Canned Chicken
  • Diapers (I have several friends that are having babies so I will get some now while I have the coupons so that I can load them up at thier showers!!!!)
  • Yoplait Yogurt
These are the items that I have seen so far this week that look like good deals!!  Have you seen something that I don't have listed or know of an unadvertised deal that is worth stocking up on?  Leave it in the comments below!!!

Tips on using Swagbucks

I posted a blog not long ago about Swagbucks and how great it was to do everyday things like search online and get Swagbucks that you can use to get gift cards and things.  I may have made it sound really really simple and people may have thought oh wow...do a search...get the bucks and BAM free stuff.  Unfortunately it isn't quiet that simple.  On a normal day you may only be awarded points 2 out of the 10 times that you search.  For that reason there are other ways that they give you point.  Usually once or twice a day they will hide a Swag code somewhere on their site and award you points for finding in and entering it on the home page.  There is a great site called ISZ Codes that you can subscribe to and get alerts each time a code is posted.  (http://iszcodes.com/).

So please don't be discouraged if you search on www.swagbucks.com and you aren't given bucks every time.  Keep trying and sign up for the code alerts.  Most of the bucks that I have came from the codes not from searching!!!

Happy Searching!!!

What a great feeling!!!

Hello Couponers!!!

I just had to share a very rewarding feeling that I had tonight.  At around 4:00 this afternoon on of my kids said "Mommy what is for dinner?"  Normally this question would have sent me into a fir of deciding what restaurant I wanted to get take out from and then I huge argument with the kids who didn't want what I suggested or one that wanted it and one that didn't. My stockpile saved me tonight!!!  Instead of having to decide where to get take out from all I had to do was walk into my kitchen and open the pantry.  I had already put a pork tenderloin out to thaw when we got home from the ball park so I knew that was out main course.  I had a lot of options and was able to make everyone in my family happy without having to run to the store or run to get takeout.

There have been times on this journey that I have questioned whether my method was worth it but tonight knowing that in a matter of an hour I was able to put a yummy healthy dinner on the table made it all worth it.  The small amount of time that I spend each day looking for coupons and the time that I spend preparing to shop was worth every minute to hear my son say "Mommy thank you so much for making us this yummy dinner.  Can I have some more?'

Happy Shopping and Saving!!!  Are you ready to hit the papers tomorrow and find the deals?  Stay tuned and I hope to have some that I see posted soon!!!

Prepping for Publix and Coupon Preview

I just finished prepping for my weekly shop at Publix.  Looks like a pretty good week....I can't wait to load up on fruit snacks for my kids and my boys on the tee ball team!!!  There is also a really good deal on Blue Bell and Weight Watcher Ice Cream treats.

Looks like there are going to be 3 inserts in the Sunday paper this week.  From what I can tell it will be 2 Smart Source and one Red Plum.  Super pumped about that!!!  Looks like I will be making another run to the Dollar Tree this Sunday.  The Dollar Tree that I went to had a TON of papers.  Like any good couponer I asked the guy what they did with the papers at the end of the day and got some sad news...the newspaper company comes and gets them.  Oh well at least I tried!!!

Stay tuned tomorrow night to see how I did at Publix.  I hope that I can do better than last week but I can't really tell just yet!!!

What is a coupon database?

Good Afternoon Couponers!!!

I hope that everyone is enjoying this lovely spring weather dispite the lovely fine yellow powder that is covering everything and making us all sneeze!

Yesterday I was talking to a good friend of mine and she was telling me how upset she was that the coupon database on her site wouldn't let her print coupons that didn't come out this week.  I was curious so off to the site I went to see what she meant.  I have rarely used a coupon database so I was somewhat intrigued by the concept.

A coupon database is a list of coupons that can be sorted by product or date (totally depends on the site you are on and how they chose to do it) and is typically used to help couponers find coupons and what inserts or printable sites they were one or in.  The common misconception it seems is that anything that is in the database can be printed and that is not the case.  If you see an coupon listed in the database that says something like "SS 2-13-11"  that means that it came in the Feb 13 paper in the Smart Source coupon insert.  If a coupon that is in the database is printable it will have a line under it linking you to the site that you can print it from OR it will say PRINTABLE.

I hope this helps!!!!  If you have questions or there are things that you would like me to blog about leave it in the comments below or send me an email!!

Happy Shopping and Savings!

I am back!!!!

I am finally back in the coupon swing after being on a business trip this week!!!  Please stay tuned for updates on AWESOME deals that I see...I am still working on getting a list together!

Being Flexible

Happy Sunday Couponers!!!
I hope everyone got the inserts out of the paper today and found some good deals!!!  I actually went to the Dollar Tree today and got three extra papers.  I had no idea that the Dollar Tree sold papers until 2 of my coworkers gave me the tip after I blogged about buying coupons.  So now that I have ordered coupons now I will see how getting multiple papers a few weeks in a row works out.

So on to the topic of being flexible.  I had a friend post a comment that she only found two coupons in Smart Source for things that she used.  This is actually something that I have heard a lot.  The other common phrase is "I only use (insert product name here) or "I am very picky about (insert product name here)".  Part of couponing is being flexible and being willing to try new things.  One of my areas of brand loyalty was laundry detergent.  I have been a Gain user for many many years.  I don't even think that I ever thought about changing until I started couponing.  About three weeks ago Purex 3 in 1 sheets were on sale for .99 at CVS.  I looked at the container, sniffed the sticker on the front to see what it smelled like, and thought for .99 I can give it a try.  My daughter has very sensitive skin so I have to be pretty careful with changing stuff on her but for .99 if I had to stop using it I was okay with that.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this laundry detergent now!  They smell great and are so easy to use.  Purex has some awesome coupons and CVS loves to put it on sale!!!  Another great Purex product is the Fabric softener crystals that they just came out with that you can also get really cheap at CVS right now.  It was actually while I was folding a load of laundry right out of the dryer and smelling that wonderful smell from the crystals that I decided to do this blog!!!

Several of the Extreme Couponers mention having one item that you don't compromise on.  A lot of people say it is toilet paper, for some it is tooth paste.  Right now because of how I am doing my stock pile I don't really think I have just one, but I am still able to get things are dirt cheap prices and sometimes even free.  I like to think that there is nothing wrong with trying new things when they cost less than a dollar.  Like the Silk Chocolate Soy milk that I got this weekend for .50, my daughter loves it and calls it her special milk!!! So if you just can't stand the thought of using something other than Charmin don't worry!  You can compromise on other things and then when the sales cycle for Charmin comes around again you can load up!!!!

Please Please Please let me know what questions you might have or things that you would like me to blog about!!!  Just leave it in the comments below!!!

Happy Shopping and Saving!!!!

For all my readers in the South I have to tell you about a site that someone at work told me about.  It is called Southern Savers and I have to say it is becoming my favorite match up site.  They pretty much have the same match up that IheartPublix has but they have a feature that allows you to print off the items that you want to get.  When you print the list it even groups them by the area of the store that they are in.  I did notice when I was doing a side by side comparison that Southern Savers had a few more printable coupons listed than IHeartPublix did but overall they were the same.  I do love that print list feature!!!

Check it out and tell me what you think or tell me what your favorite site is!!

Happy Saving!!!

Publix shop that had me almost dancing in the check out line!!!!

Happy Friday Couponers!!!!
It is a SUPER happy Friday night here at my house...for me at least!!!  So in an early post this week I told you that I was ordering some coupons from CouponDeDe.com in preparation for some major stockpiling items at Publix this week.  I have to admit as skeptical as I was about having lots of coupons or at least one coupon for every item I am planning on buying.  However after tonight I am convinced that it is the secret to massive savings.

What the heck is Swagbucks?

I am not sure if you noticed the link in my side bar called Swagbucks but some people have asked me what it is.  Swagbucks is quiet possibly the easiest way to get free stuff I have seen.  We all get on the internet on a daily basis right?  We all use do searches right?  Swagbucks is a search engine that rewards you for searching on thier site.  How do they reward you you ask?  By giving you Swagbucks that can be redeemed for prizes.  It is simple and easy.  I have gotten several $5 Amazon gift cards and several $10 Starbucks gift cards just from searching for things using the Swagbucks site.  They even have coupons on thier site that you can print and get Swagbucks when you redeem them!!!  That is a WIN WIN in my book.
So check them out and give Swagbucks a try!!!  Check them out using the link on the right side bar of my blog!

Happy Searching and Saving!!!

Expired Coupons...to trash or not?

Today I was doing some research online about couponing and I came across a program that sounded really interesting to me.  I have often wondered if there was a place that I could send my expired coupons and today I found just the place!!! There is a program called Oversees Coupon Project that allows us to send expired coupons to military bases around the world because the stores on base will take expired coupons!!  The Krazy Coupon Lady has a volunteer that we can send them to and she will handle filling out the custom forms for us.  The only thing that they ask is that we separate the coupons into Food and Non Food categories.

I am very excited that I found this program and I hope that you are too.  If you would like more information please feel free to email me or leave a comment and I will get more information to you!

Buying Clipped Coupons

Hello fellow couponers!
I hope that you are all having a great week and that you have gotten some awesome savings this week!  Last night I was doing some planning for the new Publix ad that will be out tomorrow and I realized there are A LOT of items that are good for stockpiling on the list this week.  Unlike some of the drugstores Publix doesn't do an ad preview so I was just looking around on Iheartpublix.com and found that they did in fact have the ad!!!! I was excited because that was going to help me with this next weeks strategy.  I have watched Extreme Couponing at least 10 times now and the one thing that they do that I haven't mastered yet is having a coupon for EVERY item that is on sale.  So my goal for this week...to have a coupon for every sale item that I purchase.  Looking at my coupon binder I don't have multiples of most of the items that are good for stockpiling this week...so hmmmm what to do?

Results of my CVS shop today

I have to say I am SUPER excited to tell you all about the shop that I had today at CVS!!  After looking at my list several time last night I decided to be brave and try to do a multi transaction shop just to see if I could pull it off.  I got some major deals today at CVS!!
This is what I had in my first transaction:
15- 2L Cokes
2-- Purex 3 in 1 sheets laundry detergent (that is 40 loads of laundry)
1-- Irish Spring Deodorant
1-- Right Guard Deodorant
1-- Right Guard Body Wash
1-- Clean and Clear Body Wash
TOTAL SPENT: 22.54
TOTAL SAVED: 42.73
ECB EARNED: $8

This was the second transaction:
2--16 pack big rolls of Charmin
4-- boxes of Puff's Plus
TOTAL SPENT: 19.83
TOTAL SAVED: 22.79
ECB EARNED: 10.00

I had a total of 27 items and if you take off the 10.00 ECB that I walked away with that is a total of 32.37 which means I paid $1.20 per item.

I can't believe the deal I got!!!  I got 32 rolls of toilet paper for around 9.00 when the sale price for 16 was $10.  Making this happen didn't add any extra time my shopping prep either!!!  Here is a picture of the haul:

Have you had any major deals this week?  If so let me know by leaving a comment.  Have questions about anything that I do or anything about this shop or things you would like me to post about?  Leave me a comment!!

The shop that I have planned for CVS

After much work this afternoon I have outlined a plan for a shop at CVS tomorrow.  I went out tonight to do the shop but I had no idea that CVS closed so early!!!
So this is what all I am going to get with totals and EBC listed as well:
2--Charmin Ultra Soft 16 pk Big Rolls
2--Charmin Fresh Wipes
15- 2 Liter Cokes (.66 each)
1-Right Guard Deodorant
1-Right Guard Body Wash (FREE)
1- Clean and Clear Body Wash (.99)
2--Purex Complete 3 in 1 Sheets
1- Dial Nutriskin Lotion
1- Irish Spring Deodorant (2.01 OVERAGE)
2- Thera Flu trial packs (1.02 OVERAGE)

I have 11 coupons to use and $7.29 in ECB.  Usually when I do to CVS they are out of something that is on my list so I am sure if I will get all of this or not.  I have also found that my CVS doesn't always have some of the items even in the store.  So stay tuned tomorrow night to see how I did!!

If you have done a really awesome shop this week tell me about it!!!

Happy Shopping!

Doing a Trial Run

Before you start couponing at a store I strongly recommend doing a trial run at the store just to make sure that you understand how things are going to work and so you can see that what you are trying to do really works.

When I started back couponing this time I started with 3 items on my list at Walgreen's.  I picked items that were supposed to be good deals and that i would get Register Rewards (RR) for.  True to what the match up told me I got $15 worth of stuff for $5 AND I got $3 in RR back.  I was convinced that I was on to something.

So today I was going to take the plunge and try Rite Aid for the first time.  I am already doing CVS, Walgreen's, Publix, and sometimes Target so I wasn't really sure about adding another store to the list but there were some really good things that were going to be free or overages.  So off I went with a list that consisted of Motrin PM, Visine, and Purex Crystals.  I spent $6 (I also got a Diet Coke because I was on the way to the ball park) and I got $2 in UP rewards.  Nothing to really right home about savings wise but the conditions of the store really made it not worth it to me.  So even thought I have $2 in coupons for them I am not really sure that I will go back.

By doing a trial run I was able to determine really quickly that I didn't really want to go back again.  I like to shop in places that I feel comfortable in and I just wasn't feeling it there.  No harm no foul!!!

So pick out a few items and give it a go!!
Happy Shopping

Preparing to Shop

Ok...so we have our binders ready and organized.  We have a plan for what we want to get a stock pile of.  It is now time to shop!!!  But before we jump in the car and head out to the store we still have more planning to do.  What I am telling you below is just how I do it.  I strongly suggest you take my plan and customize it to fit your needs.

The first step in planning your shops is to know when the store(s) that you are going to shop at run their sales.  For example Publix runs from Wednesday- Tuesday.  The drugstores (CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens) run ads Sunday- Saturday. Once you have that information down you know when to look for the store ad online or in the paper.

Stock Pile...what do I want in it?

If you watched the show Extreme Couponing on TLC you saw several huge stockpiles.  I have seen stockpiles on the internet where people bought things that they never had the intentions of using.  For example this one couponer had a huge stockpile of  diapers and she didn't even have kids!!! If my first attempt at couponing 3 years ago I did pretty much the same thing.  What did that mean for me?  I threw away a lot of food and stuff that my family never used.   So this time when I decided to try this again I decided that I was only going to purchase food items that I know that we would eat.

Coupons, Coupons EVERYWHERE!!!!

Q.  Where do you get your coupons?

A.  The common thought about coupons is that you have to get a newspaper every Sunday to get any.  Getting the Sunday paper helps but it is not the only way that you can coupon.  Yesterday when I went to Publix to do my weekly shop I took 42 coupons.  Of those 42 only 3 were ones that I had clipped out of the Sunday paper.  I had 3 that came from the Publix ad (which does come in a paper but you can also get it in the store), 2 from a Publix magazine also located in the store, and the rest were printed from various sites on line.

So what exactly is a Coupon Binder?

If you have ever seen me in the store or you see me at the office lately one thing that is always with me is my big pink and black coupon binder.  When I first got back into couponing I was doing a lot of research online and watching videos on YouTube and all of the great couponers in this world had a binder.  The last thing that I wanted to do was lug a 7 pound book with me when I went shopping so I decided I wasn't going to use one.  HOWEVER after several very long sessions of prepping to go to the store I decided it was time to take the plunge and get a binder.

Steps 1 and 2 to get you on the road to saving

Step 1: Couponing takes time...but it can be fun
So yes it takes time.  I spend on average at least 30 min a day doing something coupon related.  For example this how I did my coupons two weeks ago.
SATURDAY: Spent almost 2 hours getting ready to go to Publix where I saved $128 and spent $120.  It took me longer because I was using a new website that had WAY more items that I was used to.
SUNDAY: Pulled coupons out of the paper and looked at the sale flyers. Attempted some match ups to see if I understood the concept.
MONDAY: Spent 30 min getting my lists and coupons ready for CVS and Walgreens.  Shopped CVS at lunch.  Shopped Walgreens on the way to get the kids....did great saved 30.00 and spent 10.
So if you are starting out you need to set a schedule for yourself as well.  Contrary to popular belief you don't have to get the paper to coupon... most of what I used at Publix was printed and that is part of what takes time is printing the coupons.  Coupon sites put out new ones almost every day which is why you have to check them everyday.

How I got started

This is the story of how I got started couponing again!  I am not even close to those people that were on TLC but I can totally see how they got to where they are with stock piles as big as they are.  When Emily was a baby I did something called the Grocery Game.  For $20 or something like that I could go to their website and print off a list of what was on sale and it would tell me what coupon to use with it to get it at "rock bottom prices". I did that for awhile and I had a pretty decent stock pile....of things that we never used food wise.  I didn't have to buy toothpaste for almost two years...or toothbrushes either.  Recently I cleaned out my pantry and was amazed at the stuff that I got rid of.

Welcome!!!

Hello Yall!
My name is Casey Hughes and I am a working mother of two small children.  I have found  way to make couponing work for my family without going overboard and I want to share what I have learned with all of you!  So many people have asked me how I do my coupons so I thought why not start a blog!!

The main thing that people tell me is that couponing takes way to much time.  I will agree that it does take time but it doesn't have to become a full time job.  I work 40 hours a week, have a daughter in dance, a son that plays tee ball, I am a Team Mom, and I sing on the Praise Team at church and I still have time to coupon!!

I really hope that my blog helps answer questions without overwhelming you!!!  Please feel free to email me questions at anytime about anything!  If I don't know I will do best to find an answer for you!
